Age-Related Individual Behavioural Characteristics of Adult Wistar Rats

The aim of this work was to study age-related changes in the behaviour adult Wistar rats using open field (OF) and elevated plus maze (EPM) tests. Behavioural related motor activity anxiety were particular interest. Results showed that as male female progressed from 2 5 months age, there a decrease level exploratory activities an increase their anxiety. Age-related dependent upon initial individual characteristics behaviour. For example, animals demonstrated high at become significantly less active by months, low more anxious months. Low-activity high-anxiety did not show any significant OF EPM tests except for number rearings EPM. Thus, same rat age is different, which may lead differences experimental results physiological pharmacological studies different ages.
